Beginning at age 7, Jim Richter studied classical piano with several private teachers. He also took piano lessons at the Eastman School of Music, in Rochester, New York, continuing his formal piano studies until a year after graduating from college. At age 13, Jim taught himself to play guitar. Over the years, he played pop, rock, “prog rock,” fusion, and gradually moved toward jazz. These days, he writes and records original jazzy instrumental music. His 2018 album, “Breezy Day” made the Smooth Jazz charts. Jim believes that his latest album, “Mr. Kool,” is his best yet.
