Artist Biography

Duende Libre utilizes the American jazz tradition as a point of departure for daring explorations of folk and classical music from the Americas, Europe and Africa, yielding catchy melodies, lush harmonies, and wholehearted groove. Duende Libre’s third album, “The Dance She Spoke”, is a celebration of connections between people playing and dancing together, inviting listeners to feel the connections between the musical traditions of the Americas and West Africa. The connections ripple out in concentric circles to their diverse hometown of Seattle, shaped by generations of immigrants, and to a transatlantic history marked by tragedy and beauty.
