Fawn Fritzen once disdained the label “feminist”, but time and experience reshaped her thinking. Reflecting on the crucial role of music in shaping society, her songwriting explores themes of feminism, failure, conflict, and connection. Fawn embodies Canada’s diversity with her mixed cultural roots – Chinese, French, and German – performing in four languages. She blends elements of roots and gospel, layered with candid storytelling. Tim Tamashiro (former host of CBC Radio’s national jazz program Tonic) named Fawn “one of Canada’s top swingers”. In 2014, Fawn won the Julian Award of Excellence for Emerging Jazz Artists.
