With Something’s Coming, Laura Anglade steps into a wider, more cinematic frame.
The New York-based vocalist has long been rooted in the Great American Songbook, but her forthcoming album expands that language into something more theatrical, textured, and emotionally open. Drawing from musical theater, mid-century pop, Brazilian rhythms, and songbook tradition, Something’s Coming moves beyond a conventional straight-ahead vocal jazz framework. Anglade treats each song as part of a broader world: intimate, dramatic, lived-in, and open to interpretation.
The album marks what Anglade describes as “a new era of my artistry,” one shaped by the feeling of being “on the brink of something I can’t quite name yet.” That sense of anticipation runs through the record, from the restless momentum of the title track, drawn from West Side Story, to a spirited “Sunday in New York,” extending a thread of city-based repertoire that includes “Manhattan” and “April in Paris.”
Anglade pushes further into her range as a performer. “I find myself taking more risks,” she says. “I am more experimental and can stretch more, testing the limits.” That shift gives Something’s Coming its emotional range: playful, wounded, romantic, searching, and quietly defiant. For nearly a decade, she’s developed the material with pianist and accordionist Ben Rosenblum, who took the lead on the string arrangements. Then came contributions from bassist Marty Jaffe and drummer Ben Zweig.
Something’s Coming arrives after a milestone year for Anglade, whose 2025 album Get Out of Town won Vocal Jazz Album of the Year at the 2026 JUNO Awards. She also reached broader audiences with performances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s #LateShowMeMusic and The Kelly Clarkson Show. Rather than treating that momentum as a finish line, this album opens the door to a broader, more theatrical chapter of her artistry.
With Something’s Coming, Laura Anglade releases these songs into that same open air: familiar streets, old memories, new roles, and the charged sense that something is about to begin.
