Come In Funky starts off with legendary bassist Ron Carter knocking on his standup bass as if wanting to enter. Once the door opens, funky tunes flow from all directions. This album is funk in many forms: old school big band funk, experimental duet etudes, quartet funk, original fusion funk and clever funk covers, even reggae funk. Fresh, diverse, driven by sax, organ, bass, respectively, these recordings form a perfect collection that defines the many faces of funk. 17 tracks.
In addition to Ron Carter and Sal Giorgianni (who plays flute on “Seven Buttons On A Nehru Jacket”), Mueller has recorded with Grammy winners Dave Brubeck, Michael Hedges, Donny McCaslin, Bob Lanzetti (founding member of Snarky Puppy), Carl Fischer, Roy Agee, as well as Grammy nominees Dane Richeson (Blue Note Records), Ken Schaphorst (founding member of Boston-based Jazz Composers Alliance), Noah Hoffeld (Brad Mehldau) and more. He has collaborated with Grammy winner and Blues Hall of Fame guitarist Paul Nelson as well as drummer Scott Rockenfield, Jon Anderson (from Yes) and Brian Welch (“Head” from Korn). Mueller’s music is as eclectic and varied as this list, constantly blending genres and eras.
